Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technique with which your website can getter better rank and be visible on the first page of the search.
If the ranking is good, then visibility will be in the top 10 and the list goes down based on rankings. No website will be constant in number one spot because a lot of optimizations are done for websites all around the world every minute.
There is huge competition to appear on the first page of the search. SEO is done for websites so as to try for top positions and maintaining their crowns on top. There are two types of SEO, On-page and off-page SEO. Let’s discuss how to use On-page SEO to boost your rankings.
1. Website URL plays an important role. Clarity should be maintained while giving naming conventions. Every page is represented with a URL and instead of default codes, it is better to represent that page with a title representing the content.
The next point is to maintain correct structure throughout the website. This represents that order should be followed like h1 for the main heading of the website, h2 for sub-heading of content and so on. Following this rule will make things easy for search engine to pick your page up and display in search results. Only one h1 per page is SEO friendly.
2. Content is the heart for websites. When the content is of high quality then helping the page with SEO will make sure it lands on the first page of search results. Content should be unique. Plagiarism check is the process of finding the duplicate content. Make sure to check for plagiarism in your content before publishing live. Images, videos and GIF’s should also be unique and not of other websites.
If the content is unique but you have already posted in some other blogs or websites, then it is a bad practice to use again. Images with watermark are good to use because others can’t reuse. But nowadays there are many software’s to remove the watermark from images. So, it’s better to design and add some graphics in Photoshop if necessary.
3. Page links are often discarded by many but they are pretty useful to increase the views of the website. Let’s compare two scenarios. One scenario is that a post of about 500 words without any links from top to bottom and another scenario is, a post of 500 words with page links directing us to other pages of the same website. In the first scenario, the user visits the page, studies the content and leaves.
Whereas in the second scenario, user visits the page and the page links are often given to words present in content itself and so the user clicks on the link and gets redirected to other pages from your website. In both cases, second one is preferable because with the same amount of users, multiple web pages are being opened.
4. Meta tags are the most underrated things in SEO. A Meta title is a title which appears when you search and a Meta description is the 150 word brief of the article. Keywords should be in the title and as well as description so that search engine recognizes and picks your page up. We will get into keywords in the next lines. Google saves all the search history in its databases.
This is the reason why, when we start typing something, few results are displayed as drop down. The title should be optimized in such a way so that it matches the query of users and the pages with most approximate keyword usage in title gets to be in the first and second pages of search results.
5. Keywords are the words which are searched by users worldwide pretty often. For every search, there will be certain keywords associated with it. For example, if users want to search for Roger Federer(a famous footballer) obviously One word they will be using is Roger federer in their search.
So that becomes the keyword when your article is on him. Searching terminology depends on various people. But we have to see the keyword usage in Google analytics and use them appropriately. Sign in to Google Analytics website and type some word regarding your article and statistics for that word usage is shown.
With the help of this tool, one can estimate what keywords to use in order to get better SEO done for their pages.
These are some of the on-page SEO techniques to use to get a better ranking for your website. By doing this, half of the work is over and the other half is fulfilled by off-page SEO. As the proverb says, “Single hand won’t create a clap but two hands will”, in the same way on-page and off-page SEO should be done for better ranking.
