Methods to check your link is DoFollow or NoFollow in SEO
Do Follow and No Follow links are one of the techniques used in Off-page SEO to improve the rankings. Do Follow links are those links which a blogger insists Google search engine that it’s a good site with related content. No Follow links are those links which a blogger doesn’t recommend to go as they may contain various other articles which are not related. Both type of links are useful for climbing the ranks. We are basically putting other page links on our website and they will do link our website on their pages. Back linking is the process of linking other web pages to our blog or website so that users may be diverted to links. In this way, websites which are interlinked would be beneficial because if the content is good, traffic is coming for free from other sites.

Finding both links in Google Chrome browser:

  • Two of the most common browsers used in computers are Google Chrome and Firefox. Internet explorer is default but almost no one uses it. A web page can contain lots of Do Follow and No Follow links and in order to identify them, free add-ons are available for both browsers. MozBar is an extension for Google Chrome which can be downloaded in app store.
  • Once installed, it can be opened by the icon present on top right of browser. Or by the combination CTRL + Shift + Alt + M , it opens up the MozBar. After the scan of web page is done, green highlight words are Do Follow links and purple highlighted words are No Follow links. This extension is minimal and doesn’t take more space or RAM. It will not reduce the speed of loading time of websites.
  • If you do not want any extensions or programs to find those links, then another easy way is to right click anywhere on the web page and among the options choose view page source option. It brings out all the code of website in new tab. Then search for No Follow and Do Follow links and the shortcut for finding is CTRL + F. A little bit of HTML knowledge is required in order to find the links in this process. Anchor tags are used for links and “rel” is an HTML tag which is used to declare the links as Do Follow or No Follow.

Finding both links in Mozilla Firefox browser:

  • Mozilla Firefox is another browser used by many people. In Firefox, NoDoFollow plugin is used for finding the links. Download this plugin, which in the next steps asks you whether to allow the installation or not. Click on Allow and it will be installed.
  • Restarting the browser will make sure the NoDoFollow plugin is ready to be used. Like in the chrome, right click anywhere on the webpage and you will see an option of NoDoFollow. Clicking on that will display No Follow links and Do Follow links.

Uses of Do Follow and No Follow links:

  • Google has certain rules to be followed by each and every website and if followed exactly, then search engine picks the page and displays in search results. The more do follow links you have, the more is your priority by the search engine.
  • As we discussed earlier, do follow links are those links related to website content and are of higher ranks. Even no follow links are useful. Top-ranked website links are taken because they have higher visitor hit per day ratio and it is useful for the websites who link them.
  • Google introduced a new concept to rank web pages called page rank. Page rank depends on various factors and keeps on changing day to day. Search Engine Optimization helps in improved page ranks.
  • Among the two links, do follow links are useful and beneficial. By specifying a link, we are insisting search engine to follow that website too. In the same case, if others include our website link into their pages, visitors may be attracted to us from other pages. Generally, content related top websites are only included as do follow links.
There should be a limited number of do follow links and more links may reduce the ranking. No, Follow links are not related to content and are in the page to get more backlinks. Many people can get the question as to what is the benefit of knowing which links are do follow and which are no follow? Well, this is not for the users but for the bloggers it is very useful information. They can find what useful websites they have put as do follow links. Cross check can be done and really important websites can be taken and reused into their own websites or blogs. We have to search for website links which relate to your web page content.
